Default Folder X 6.1.4 – Enhances Open and Save dialogs with bountiful options

by

Default Folder X attaches a toolbar to the right side of the Open and Save dialogs in any OS X-native application. The toolbar gives you fast access to various folders and commands. You just click on the buttons to go to your favorite and recently used folders, manage the folders and files shown in the list, and make changes to your settings. It also fixes a number of problems in Open and Save dialogs, “rebounding” to the last selected file, putting the path listing back in the top menu, and correcting bugs in scrolling column views.

Features:

  • Directory assistant: You can access the contents of your recent, favorite, and open folders right from Default Folder X’s toolbar.
  • Real time saving: If you’re constantly saving things inside the same folder, Default Folder X can remember that folder for you.
  • Finder management: Default Folder X lets you open up or save to any Finder window with a single click.
  • Instant Recall: To help you quickly return to folders you’ve recently used, Default Folder X remembers them for you.
  • Spotlight on the spot: Default Folder X lets you add Spotlight keywords, OpenMeta tags, and Finder labels on the spot, while you’re still in the Save dialog.
  • Information central: With Default Folder X you get previews below every Open dialog, expanded to fill the available space. Need to see more detail? Click on the image and it zooms up to full size.
  • Workflow without work: Rather than make you learn and set up a new application, Default Folder X blends into OS X.

WHAT’S NEW

Version 6.1.4:

  • Corrected a bug that could cause Default Folder X to hang when you opened a Microsoft Word file stored on a SharePoint volume.
  • After dragging items to a folder in the Finder drawer, the destination folder is opened with the newly moved or copied items selected.
  • When dragging multiple files and / or folders to Default Folder X’s menu bar icon or Finder drawer, the prompt to replace existing items now has an “Apply to All” checkbox.
  • You can restrict searches in Quick Search by preceding them with “all:”, “files:”, “folders:”, “apps:”, “recent:”, “favorite:”, “finder:”, “spotlight:”. This works when typing in the Quick Search window or when invoking saved searches using URLs like defaultfolderx://QuickSearch?folders:searchstring, and is the same as selecting those options from the search menu.
  • Corrected problems with Default Folder X failing to list and show Finder labels and colors if your Finder preferences were incomplete.
  • Quick Search could sometimes include results that didn’t completely match the current search. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed a problem that prevented the Copy ‘Em app from working properly in Save As dialogs.
  • Improved error detection and reporting when syncing Default Folder X’s settings via iCloud.
  • There’s an option in the Additional Settings to always hide the sidebar in file dialogs. Hold down the Option key when choosing “Settings” to get to it.
  • The “defaultfolderx” URL scheme has new options to check for updates and bring up Default Folder X’s About box:
